United for Sustainable Fisheries and Natural Resource Management

Welcome to the LEAFAO

The Republic of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) established a framework for bilateral cooperation following the signing of the agreement establishing the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) in 1986. Under the auspices of Joint Permanent Commission, Both Countries signed Bilateral Fisheries Agreement (BFA) on 20th October 2018. This agreement established a collaboration framework to ensure sustained fisheries resources management and other relevant natural resources in the lakes Edward and Albert and their basin, for the benefit of both Countries. In this agreement both Countries agreed to establish an Organisation that will enable this cooperation framework with one shared vision and mission.
