About LEAFAO

The Lakes Edward and Albert Fisheries and Aquaculture Organization (LEAFAO) was born from a long-standing commitment to regional cooperation. Our roots trace back to 1986 when Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) established the Joint Permanent Commission. This partnership flourished, leading to the signing of the Bilateral Fisheries Agreement on October 20, 2018. This landmark agreement paved the way for LEAFAO’s creation, establishing a collaborative framework to manage fisheries resources in Lakes Edward and Albert for the benefit of both nations.
